At the interview

Introducing Yourself

You walk into the interview room, and the hiring manager smiles and asks, "Tell me a little about yourself."

How do you respond?

Give a long and detailed life story.

Answer with only one sentence, like 'I’m good at computers.'

Briefly describe your skills, experience, and interest in the role.

Handling a Common Question

The interviewer asks, "Why do you want to work in our company?"

What you respond?

'Because I need a job.'

Give a vague response, like 'I think it looks like a good place.'

Explain how the company’s mission aligns with your skills and interests.'

Answering Strengths and Weaknesses

The hiring manager asks, "What are your strengths and weaknesses?"

How should you answer?

Say you don’t have any weaknesses.

List multiple weaknesses but don’t mention any strengths.

Mention a strength relevant to the job and a weakness with a way you’re improving it.

Managing Unexpected Questions

The interviewer asks, "Can you describe a time when you solved a problem at work?"

What do you do?

Say you’ve never had any problems.

Struggle to think of an answer and stay silent.

Give a structured response with a past experience.

Discussing Accommodations

You may need workplace accommodations to succeed. The interviewer asks, "Do you need any accommodations to perform your best at work?"

How do you respond?

Say you don’t need any, even if you do.

Say you’re not sure, but would like flexibility.

Clearly explain any accommodations that would help you succeed.

Closing the Interview

The interviewer asks, "Do you have any questions for me?"

What do you ask?

Nothing, just say ‘No, thanks.’

Ask only about salary and time off.

Ask about company culture, training, or career growth.

You’re doing well but can improve some of your approaches to networking and job searching. Keep practicing and don’t be afraid to reach out to others for support!
